Martha Gonzalez-Cortes
Martha Gonzalez-Cortes is a first-generation Michigander with 30 years of experience in farm labor organizing racial justice and civil rights advocacy; MI BIPOC nonprofit leadership; state public policy work; and philanthropic grantmaking. She specializes in community-led movement building and BIPOC leadership development. She currently serves as the Executive Deputy Director and provides grant support to nonprofits on the front line of democracy defense and civic mobilization in Michigan. She also provides statewide technical assistance and support for the build-out of organizing projects with historically disenfranchised communities (Latinx, Arab American, Muslim, AAPI, Tribal) and supports organizing incubators in geographic places impacted by philanthropy deserts, environmental degradation, and legacies of severe structural racism.
